Azhar may file review plea

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad | January 29, 2003 12:41 IST

Former Indian cricket skipper Mohammed Azharuddin will appeal against the judgment of the Second Additional Chief Judge, Hyderabad, M Vijayalaxmi, dismissing his plea to refer the life ban on him to an arbitrator.

"We will be definitely going in for revision. We are waiting for the copy of the judgment. We will work out our plan of action. However, all I can say is that the Board for Control of Cricket in India's stand is discriminatory. Having agreed to refer the case of one player to the arbitrator, their refusal to do the same in the case of another player is untenable," Azharuddin's counsel K Jagadeesh told rediff.com on Wednesday morning.

An arbitrator appointed by the Delhi high court had, on Monday, struck down the five-year ban imposed by the BCCI on Ajay Jadeja.

Azharuddin had filed the application in December 2002, soon after the Delhi high court had asked Justice (retd) J K Mehra to arbitrate in Jadeja's case. The application was filed during the hearings of Azharuddin's main petition.
