Popular South Indian actress, Soundarya, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party recently, was among four persons killed in a plane crash at Jakkur near Bangalore on Saturday, party and police sources said.

Soundarya was going to Karimnagar in Andhra Pradesh to campaign for the BJP when the four-seater aircraft crashed, Karnataka BJP president H N Ananth Kumar said.

The actress' brother Amaranath, who was travelling with her, also died in the crash, police sources said.

Soundarya, who acted in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam films, was married just a few months back.

She won the national award last year for Kannada film Dweepa.
