Actress and former Telugu Desam Party Rajya Sabha member Jayaprada on Tuesday joined the Samajwadi Party in the presence of party president and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in Lucknow.

Jayaprada said she was impressed with Yadav's policies and leadership qualities.

"I want to contribute in the progress of Uttar Pradesh selflessly as I find that the nation cannot develop without the progress of the state," she said.

Party general secretary Amar Singh was also present on the occasion.

In Mumbai, meanwhile, former director general of police, CID, Maharashtra T K Choudhary joined the Samajwadi Party.

Announcing his entry, Rajya Sabha member Abu Asim Azmi said Choudhary would be given ticket to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Mumbai.

However, the constituency from which he would contest has not been finalised.
