H-P unveils Wi-fi ready notebook computer

IT company Hewlett Packard on Thursday unveiled an advanced computing device, Wi-Fi ready notebook computer, to cater to the needs of mobile executives and professionals by providing campus-wide network and Internet access.

The HP nx9000 -- the Wi-Fi portable allows mobile professionals to secure high-speed access to e-mail and other business applications using virtually any wireless local areas network and mobile access device, Ravi Swaminathan, vice president, personal systems group, HP India said on Thursday.

The Notebook is priced at Rs 96,000 and has the latest Intel Pentium 4-M processor large capacity hard drives and Microsoft XP Professional.

The advanced version of the standard model -- nx9000 Combo priced at Rs 1.10 lakh. Both the models are integrated with 802.11b wireless standard.

The Wi-fi technology enables a user to get connected to the internet without using wires and this access in however possible when an individual is located within 100 metres of a base station or a 'hot spot'. In India, there are about 100 such hotspots in hotels and in office blocks.
