World Cup mobile content rights for Hutch
January 27, 2003 17:28 IST
Cellular operator Hutchinson has bagged exclusive rights for the content of ICC World Cup Cricket 2003 for mobile telephony, enabling it to send video clips of every match's "best moments" on a cellphone.
"The subscribers will be able to receive 10 second video clips and progressive stills of the best moments of all World Cup matches as each game progresses", Hutchison Max Telecom managing director Asim Ghosh told reporters in Mumbai on Monday after Indian batting star Rahul Dravid launched the service.
The cellular operator launched an upgraded technology known as Global Packet Radio Services "HutchWorld" through which it would relay the video clips on GPRS enabled cellular phones.
With an introductory price of Rs 99 per month till March 31, the service would be available to subscribers for a basic fee of Rs 249 per month later on.
"Another GPRS service that is expected to be widely used is photo messaging using Multimedia Messaging Service," Ghosh added.
Hutch has also tied up with BBC and NDTV for news content to be supplied to its over 200,000 consumers all over India.
The services offered under HutchWorld include accessing the Internet through a GPRS-enabled cell phone and the company has an exclusive tie-up with MSN and Yahoo for offering e-mail services on the phone to consumers, he added.
