CAS may roll out zone-wise in Delhi, Mumbai from July 15

July 03, 2003 15:53 IST

The conditional access system may roll out zone-wise in Delhi and Mumbai from July 15, if the government agrees to a recommendation made by the multi system operators on Thursday.

The suggestion by the MSOs was conveyed to the government to ensure that there was no black out of channels after the implementation of CAS.

"The government has agreed in principle," claimed MSO representatives from SitiCable, Hathway and In Cable.

However, there was no word from the government on their recommendation.

Under the suggestion, to begin with, CAS may be implemented in South Delhi and South Mumbai on account of factors like "affluence" and socio-economic dynamics.

Full implementation of the CAS in these cities may be possible in 12 weeks' time from July 15, MSO sources said.

The cases of Chennai and Kolkata did not figure in the meeting.
