The multi-billion dollar consumer electronics giant Sanyo Corporation is looking at the possibility of acquiring some of BPL's manufacturing capacities in the country.

Sanyo, which is at an advanced stage of equity infusion into its long-time Indian partner BPL, will most probably acquire a couple of units to improve the productivity of the plants.

"As part of the restructuring process and equity infusion, Sanyo might also look at taking over some of our manufacturing capacities," a senior executive of BPL told Business Standard.

However, BPL refused to comment, saying the company was in the final stages of restructuring and would comment only after the process was finalised.

The BPL group has around 28 factories in the country. "Sanyo can further improve these units by deploying specialised mechanisms and processes," the executive said.
