Sensex gains 78 points at close

The Sensex closed with a gain of 78 points at 4,631. While 24 index scrips advanced, six declined on Monday.

ITC gained nearly 4% (Rs 31) to Rs 840. While HLL was up a rupee at Rs 192, Reliance gained Rs 9 to Rs 458.

Infosys was up Rs 7 at Rs 4,561. HCL and Satyam also moved up today.

SBI added Rs 9 to Rs 465. HPCL was down Rs 8 at Rs 352.

Telco advanced 7% (Rs 24) to Rs 342. Bajaj and Hero Honda also finished in positive zones.

BSES zoomed 7% (Rs 27) to Rs 409. HDFC jumped more than 5% (Rs 28) to Rs 550. Tisco gained Rs 10 to Rs 292.

Sensex@1500 hrs

The market-mood continues to display positive trends following gains in old and new economy stocks.

The Sensex has appreciated by 1.60% (73 points) to 4,626.

The Nifty has advanced 28 points to 1,477.

ITC has vaulted 4% (Rs 30) to Rs 839. HLL has slipped into the red to Rs 190.

BHEL is trading firm since opening trades with a gain of 4% (Rs 17) at Rs 421. SBI has added Rs 7 to Rs 463. HPCL is still trading weak with a loss of 3% (Rs 11) at Rs 349.

Grasim has spurted 4% (Rs 27) to Rs 690. L&T has logged 3% gains (Rs 9) to Rs 349. ACC, too, has risen sharply since afternoon trades, and has moved up nearly 3% (Rs 6) to Rs 212. Gujarat Ambuja is still up a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 235.

Bajaj is holding on to its gains at Rs 853 - up Rs 15 or 2%. While Telco has notched up 5% gains (Rs 17) to Rs 335, Hero Honda has gained 3% (Rs 10) to Rs 334.

Infosys is unchanged with a per cent gain (Rs 33) at Rs 4,587. Satyam remains unchanged with a per cent gain (Rs 3) at Rs 261. HCL Tech has surged 4% (Rs 7) to Rs 185.

BSES has vaulted 7% (Rs 26) to Rs 408. While HDFC has shot up 4% (Rs 21) to Rs 543, Hindalco has gained Rs 13 to Rs 990. Tisco has jumped 3% (Rs 8) to Rs 290, but Zee has lost ground to Rs 134 - down Rs 2.

While Cipla is marginally up at Rs 1,050, Dr. Reddy's has slipped into the red with a loss of Rs 3 at Rs 1,109. Glaxo is up Rs 2 at Rs 453. Ranbaxy has edged higher by Rs 11 to Rs 980.

Punjab Tractors has spurted 13% (Rs 26) to Rs 228. EIL has logged 13% (Rs 43) to Rs 386. Hexaware and Adani Exports have gained 8% each to Rs 303 (up Rs 23) and Rs 214 (up Rs 16), respectively. BEML has surged 7% (Rs 14) to Rs 202.

Sensex@1315 hrs

The early afternoon trades saw some volatility in the gains of the index, dragging it below the 4,600 levels as select stocks pared gains on selling pressure. However, it has again rebounded on renewed buying support and has moved past the 4,600-mark. It is now up 63 points at 4,616.

The Nifty has gained 23 points to 1,472.

ITC has trimmed its gains on profit-taking, and is now up 2% (Rs 17) at Rs 826. Reliance has gained Rs 5 to Rs 454. HLL is still trading marginally higher at Rs 191.

HPCL is languishing in the negative territory with a loss of 3% (Rs 13) at Rs 347. MTNL is down a rupee at Rs 119. BHEL is unchanged with a gain of 3% (Rs 13) at Rs 417. SBI is also trading at higher levels at Rs 462 - up Rs 6.

Bajaj has gained 2% (Rs 14) to Rs 852. Telco continues to trade at higher levels at Rs 333 - up Rs 14 or 4%. Hero Honda has slightly come off from higher levels, but is still up 3% (Rs 9) at Rs 333.

Infosys is trading with a steady gain of 1% (Rs 37) at Rs 4,591. HCL Tech is trading higher by 3% (Rs 5) at Rs 183. Satyam is up a per cent (Rs 2) at Rs 260.

Grasim and L&T are trading firm at Rs 675 (up Rs 12) and Rs 345 (up Rs 5) - up 2% each. Gujarat Ambuja and ACC have shed some gains, and are now up a per cent each at Rs 234 and Rs 208, respectively.

BSES has advanced 4% (Rs 15) to Rs 397. Hindalco and HDFC are trading with gains of 2% each at Rs 994 (up Rs 18) and Rs 532 (up Rs 10), respectively. While Tisco has added nearly 3% (Rs 8) to Rs 289, Zee has slipped into the red with a rupee loss at Rs 134.

Ranbaxy has pared gains on selling pressure, and is up a per cent (Rs 8) at Rs 977. Dr. Reddy's and Cipla continue to trade at steady levels at Rs 1,118 (up Rs 6) and Rs 1,051 (up Rs 4), respectively. Glaxo is marginally up Rs 2 at Rs 453.

Sensex@1230 hrs

The markets continue to gain on firm buying support in old and new economy stocks. Though select stocks remain subdued on sustained selling pressure, the Sensex has advanced 68 points to 4,621.

The Nifty has gained 25 points to 1,474.

ITC is unchanged with gains of 2% (Rs 19) at Rs 828. Reliance and HLL are also trading with steady gains of Rs 455 (up Rs 6) and Rs 192 (up a rupee), respectively.

BHEL has added 3% (Rs 13) to Rs 417. SBI has scaled up by 2% (Rs 8) to Rs 464. HPCL continue to reel under selling pressure, and is now down 3% (Rs 10) at Rs 350.

Bajaj is trading firm with a gain of 2% (Rs 18) at Rs 856. While Hero Honda has added 3% (Rs 11) to Rs 335, Telco has surged 5% (Rs 15) to Rs 333.

HCL Tech, on firm buying support, has clocked 4% gains (Rs 8) to Rs 186. Infosys is holding on to its gains at Rs 4,586 - up Rs 32. Satyam is up a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 260.

Grasim has moved up 2% (Rs 16) to Rs 680. L&T has drifted into the positive zone with a gain of 2% (Rs 7) at Rs 347. Gujarat Ambuja and ACC have inched up by Rs 4 each to Rs 236 and Rs 210, respectively.

BSES, after a steady opening, has notched up significant gains on sustained buying support to Rs 400 - up Rs 18 or 5%. Hindalco has logged 2% gains (Rs 18) to Rs 994. Tisco and Zee also are trading in the gainers list at Rs 289 (up Rs 7 or 2%) and Rs 136, respectively.

Ranbaxy has moved up by Rs 13 to Rs 982. Dr. Reddy's and Cipla continue to trade with modest gains at Rs 1,122 (up Rs 9) and Rs 1,052 (up Rs 5), respectively. Glaxo is marginally up at Rs 453.

Sensex@1110 hrs

After a gain of 15 points in the opening, the Sensex has advanced further on sustained buying support in old and new economy stocks, and has moved up 42 points to 4,595.

The Nifty, too, has gained 17 points to 1,466.

ITC has added 2% (Rs 19) to Rs 828. While Reliance has gained Rs 5 to Rs 453, HLL has inched up by Rs 2 to Rs 192.

BHEL has firmed up 2% (Rs 10) to Rs 414. SBI, too, has gained ground to Rs 461 - up Rs 6. HPCL is still down 3% (Rs 10) at Rs 350. MTNL is trading with marginal losses at Rs 119.

Hero Honda has spurted 4% (Rs 13) to Rs 337. Bajaj has moved up 2% (Rs 17) to Rs 855. Telco, too, has advanced 2% (Rs 7) to Rs 325.

Infosys is now up a per cent (Rs 24) at Rs 4,578. HCL Tech has upped its gains by 3% (Rs 5) to Rs 183. Satyam is marginally up at Rs 259.

Grasim has edged higher on buying support to Rs 674 - up Rs 12 or 2%. Gujarat Ambuja and ACC have added Rs 3 each to Rs 235 and Rs 210, respectively. L&T, however, is trading in the red at Rs 338 - down Rs 2.

Dr. Reddy's and Cipla are trading with steady gains at Rs 1,120 (up Rs 8) and Rs 1,050 (up Rs 3), respectively. Ranbaxy and Glaxo are trading with a per cent gain each at Rs 975 (up Rs 6) and Rs 454 (up Rs 4), respectively.

Hindalco (up a per cent or Rs 13 to Rs 990), HDFC (down a per cent or Rs 6 to Rs 528), BSES (up 2% or Rs 8 to Rs 390) are trading with decent gains. Tisco and Zee, too, are up a per cent each at Rs 286 (up Rs 4) and Rs 137, respectively. Nestle, however, is trading with a loss of Rs 5 at Rs 590.

STC, which opened with firm gains, has hit the upper circuit of 20% (Rs 21) at Rs 125. EIL has spurted 13% (Rs 44) to Rs 387. IOC has shed most of its gains from the early trades, and is now up 5% (Rs 20) at Rs 406.

Other major gainers are Punjab Tractors, which has logged 13% gains (Rs 26) to Rs 228. M&M and Balaji Telefilms have raked in 5% gain each to Rs 265 (up Rs 14) and Rs 71 (up Rs 3), respectively. Moser Baer has firmed up 4% (Rs 16) to Rs 392.

Sensex@1015 hrs

The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 15 points at 4,568, and further buying in select old and new economy stocks saw the index spurt to a high of 4,587.

It is now up 31 points at 4,584. The Nifty has advanced 11 points to 1,460.

ITC has clocked a per cent gain (Rs 9) to Rs 818. While Reliance has added Rs 3 to Rs 451, HLL is up a rupee at Rs 192.

HPCL has come under intense selling pressure in early morning deals, and has dropped nearly 5% (Rs 17) to Rs 343. BHEL has gained a per cent (Rs 6) to Rs 410. While SBI is up a per cent (Rs 4) at Rs 460, MTNL is trading marginally higher at Rs 121.

Infosys has slipped a per cent (Rs 29) to Rs 4,525. HCL Tech has logged 2% gains (Rs 4) to Rs 182. Satyam also is trading with gains of Rs 4 at Rs 262.

Bajaj has added Rs 8 to Rs 846. Other auto stocks are also trading in the gainers list.

Select PSU stocks have spurted on better divestment hopes. IOC zooms 8% (Rs 31) to Rs 417. While EIL advances 14% (Rs 48) to Rs 391, STC vaults 16% (Rs 17) to Rs 121.
