TVS Motor rolls out Centra bike

January 05, 2004 14:10 IST

Targeting the 'popular' segment, India's leading two wheeler major TVS Motor Company on Monday launched a 100 cc four-stroke motor cycle, with variable timing intelligent (VTi) engines, claiming to give more mileage to consumers.

Bundling price, mileage, maintenance, style, power and riding comfort into it, the Centra, also called 'fill it once a month bike', would make it the most fuel-efficient motor cycle in the country, Venu Srinivasan, chairman and managing director of the company, told newsmen in Chennai, while launching the new product, costing Rs 36,990.

Pointing out that this latest technology engine would be introduced in other motor cycle brands of the company like Victor and Fiero, he said 1.4 million two-wheelers, including mopeds, would be sold by the company during 2004-05.

Venu said nearly Rs 100 crore (Rs 1 billion) investment had gone into the launch of Centra, including on research and development, and plant and machinery.
