Madhuri Dixit wants to turn producer. If only, to bag the National Award. Having lost out to Raveena Tandon despite her sterling performance in Pukar, a disappointed Madhuri is said to be on the lookout for good scripts, which she doesn't mind producing as well.
Recently, when a script was narrated to her, Madhuri jumped at the idea of producing it. With rumours of her retirement doing the rounds, she's adamant on making the National Award hers, before she quits for good.
Bhagnani, the strategist?
Producer Vashu Bhagnani has been receiving kudos for Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai from all the corners of the film industry. His strategic planning and presentation of newcomer Tusshar Kapoor, is what made the difference, everybody seems to think.
Thanks to pre-release publicity Tusshar went down well with the audiences and was accepted with open arms.
Bhagnani, the strategist, had also advised debutante producers, Juhi Chawla and Shah Rukh Khan, on the publicity campaign of Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani.
That would explain why director Deepak Shivdasani is planning to entrust the marketing of his film Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke to Bhagnani. Deepak seems to be going by the success of Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai... perhaps he's forgotten that the same Vashu charm didn't work with Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya.
Dubbing double trouble
Has Karan Nath dubbed for his debut film Paagalpan?
No, not really, says the director Joy Augustine. But, Joy is more keen on wanting to know how we even got to hear of this juicy tidbit, rather than deny the story.
Technicians admit that Augustine, fed up with the hero’s father, Rikku's, politics decided to use a dubbing double for the film.
Apparently, Rikku who has been masterminding his son’s career wanted Kuku Kohli’s film to be Karan’s maiden release, not Paagalpan. Rikku thought he could delay the release using the "I'm not letting my son dub" tactic. Joy in sheer disgust decided to hire a professional dubbing artiste.
In the meanwhile, an apologetic Rikku made peace with the producer and director of the film. Lest controversy marr the debutante’s career, Augustine keeps denying the fact that a double indeed dubbed for Paagalpan.
Married to the marquee
One actress whose popularity increases by the hour is, Juhi Chawla. Motherhood notwithstanding, Juhi is still getting offers aplenty. She made the right decision, to shift over to character roles and meatier stuff, as the regular glamour heroine’s roles aren't her cup of tea, any longer.
She arrived at this when her maiden home production Phir Bhi Dil… bit the dust and Arjun Pandit limped along to the BO.
While some of her colleagues are still trying to do the song and dance routine, Juhi has commendably moved on and despite her new status as mother, is still a much in demand actress. At the latest count she had signed on five films...Wonder if Madhuri's listening?
Ghai steals Kareena
Subhash Ghai is a smart guy, who plays his cards well. His Yaadein and Shah Rukh Khan’s Asoka The Great, are both currently at the dubbing stage. The production boys of Asoka The Great managed to pin down an errant Kareena Kapoor and brought her into the dubbing studio Audeus.
This incidentally belongs to Ghai, who did his bit of arm twisting and convinced Kareena to dub for his own film Yaadein leaving the Asoka The Great team extremely frustrated for having worked so hard, only to find Ghai reaping the benefits.
SRKworld.com kaput?
Shah Rukh has taken the closing down of his dream project SRKworld.com very personally. It is believed that SRKworld will be purchased by B4U. Which would render the 35 odd staff members jobless.Apparently, Shah Rukh had no other option but to take this decision, as the losses were phenomenal.
But what is said to have hurt Shah Rukh more is that his website didn't become the revenue-generating site he had envisioned it to be.Also the merchandising was an utter flop, which meant that there were no buyers for the ShahRukh-endorsed goods?
