Bombay cops face flak from dial100.com

E-Mail this report to a friend

Supporters of a don allegedly based in Malaysia may hardly be whom they want their laurels from. But having gangsters raise an admonishing finger at them may be a bit more than they'd bargained for.

The web site, is hosted by an associate of Chhota Rajan. And, to underline that fact, there's a gushy little article titled 'Patriotic Don' about him. If you haven't got that yet, it informs you that he's the only patriotic gangster in the Bombay underworld.

However, after a local daily carried a piece about the site, the don reportedly called up the newspaper and denied that he himself had launched any such site.

This web site, available at www.dial100.com, was launched on Republic Day and is hosted from Falls Church, Virginia but is updated from an apartment in Mauli Building, Ramnagar, Dombivli (East).

The site has a go at everything that defines the establishment, from the 'mess' the police force allegedly made and the rise of terrorism under politicians like Union Home Minister L K Advani, Defence Minister George Fernandes and External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh. The politicians were also held guilty for the death of passenger Rupin Katyal when IA Flight 814 was hijacked.

One interesting section is 'Mumbai Today', which document the crimes the city has witnessed in the last 24 hours and how badly the city police dealt with the situation. The site claims Police Commissioner Ronnie Mendonca is "too godly a person to be taken seriously by his subordinates" while Joint Commissioner D Sivanandhan was "villainous and wicked, who cares a damn for those helping the police".

The site claims the duo is to blame for the deaths of police informers Hussain Wastara and Aziz Boiler. The accusations go on...

The web site warns informers to avoid the police and especially 'keep away' from Joint Commissioner Sivanandhan.

Sivanandhan himself was surprised at this reference to himself but refused to say what he thought of the site and its contents.

The piece about Chhota Rajan is lavish in its praises and claims he is the only don whose gang does not indulge in extortion.

"Our boys are fed through settlement of real estate disputes", the site claims, and then goes on to identify Chhota Rajan's next targets as the "Karachi-based anti-national criminals operating in connivance with ISI to sabotage the law and order in India." A not-too-oblique reference to Dawood Ibrahim.

It also claims he's willing to work for Indian Intelligence if India decides to operate on the lines of Israel's Mossad and the CIA.

"Chhota Rajan is the best bet to control terrorism," the site claims.

The web site offers rewards to 'informers' who can provide valuable information on rival gangs and corrupt officials. Confidentiality is assured, they promise.

The Bombay police said they had no knowledge of the web site.

Joint Commissioner Sivanandhan said: "We cannot control the Internet but appropriate action will be taken to block the site,"

After accessing the site, Sivanandhan said, "a disgruntled element has used the site to malign the police department."

A deputy commissioner of police later said they had decided to monitor the site instead of blocking it with help from the Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited.
