Upset with the National Human Rights Commission for moving the Supreme Court, the Gujarat government reportedly revealed that it had all along had plans to challenge the acquittal of all the accused in the Best Bakery case, in the state high court.

In an extraordinary move, the NHRC had on Thursday petitioned the apex court for a fresh trial outside Gujarat in the controversial Best Bakery and four other 'serious' cases relating to the Godhra train burning incident and its aftermath.

Gujarat Minister of State for Home Amit Shah and Law Minister Ashok Bhatt met Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Union Law Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday and are believed to have protested against the action of the NHRC in moving the Supreme Court, official sources told PTI.

The two reportedly told the minister that the state government was, in any case, in the process of filing an appeal, the sources said.

"The state government feels that the NHRC's action is a serious onslaught on the federal polity and expression of no-confidence on the state's judicial system," the duo is believed to have told the Union ministers.
