In a major relief to students, the Bombay high court on Saturday lifted its stay on the admission process to professional courses in Maharashtra.

The court also ruled that there would be a uniform fee structure, including for seats of the management quota, which will be decided by the respective colleges subject to the approval of the high court-appointed committee on the issue.

Hearing a bunch of petitions, a division bench ruled that admissions to medical and engineering courses would be based on a merit list arrived at through the common entrance test conducted by the state government (MH-CET).

The admissions for engineering courses would begin on August 27 while those for medical course will commence from September 3.

The colleges will have to submit their fee structure to the government by August 30. The government will get one week to study it after which the proposal will be placed before the high court.

In minority institutions, the court said, reservations would be applicable for admissions to all the seats.

The high court will decide the fate of students already granted admission in a few medical colleges on August 27.

The details will be made available on the state government's Web site.
