Shinde convenes meeting to chalk out disaster management plan

August 26, 2003 10:30 IST

Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde has convened a high-level meeting of top officials from the police, navy, municipal corporation, fire brigade and health departments to chalk out a disaster management plan and evolve security measures in the wake of Monday's blasts in Mumbai.

The meeting would be held at Mantralaya in the afternoon, official sources told PTI in Mumbai.

Shinde has also convened a meeting of Citizens' Forum at Mantralaya on Wednesday to infuse confidence among people that the government would tackle terrorism with a firm hand.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani and Congress president Sonia Gandhi are slated to visit the metropolis on Tuesday, official sources said.

Advani would visit the sites of the blasts and the injured in hospitals, BJP sources said. He would then leave for Aurangabad to participate in the concluding session of a two-day state-level party meet.

Sonia is scheduled to visit the Mumbadevi area, site of one of the explosions, Congress sources said adding she is then slated to meet Shinde at his official residence Varsha.
