LeT threatens to increase attacks in J&K
January 22, 2003 19:05 IST
Pakistan-based militant outfit Lashkar-e-Tayiba has threatened to intensify suicide attacks across Jammu and Kashmir, where security has been beefed up in the run up to the Republic Day celebrations.
Srinagar newspapers on Wednesday carried a statement to this effect by Abu Asa, a 'divisional commander' of the outfit.
"Suicide attacks will be carried out on security camps across the valley to force the withdrawal of troops from Kashmir," the statement said.
Meanwhile, Border Security Force personnel on Wednesday carried out a surprise security check on the SMHS Hospital in Srinagar.
The hospital was cordoned off and all the rooms were thoroughly searched.
Surprise searches, frisking, checking of vehicles and roadblocks are part of the security arrangements to ensure trouble-free Republic Day celebrations in Jammu and Kashmir.
The main function would be held at the Bakshi stadium in Srinagar.
