Two unidentified gunmen on Friday evening shot dead Parvaz Mohammed Sultan, editor of NAFA, a local news agency, in his office on Residency Road in Srinagar.
"The two gunmen came inside the office and were talking to Parvaz. Suddenly, I heard the sounds of gunfire. On looking around, I saw the assailants running away," said Mohammad Iqbal, an employee of NAFA.
Other employees and Sultan's servant rushed to the spot and took him to the SMHS hospital. He, however, succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.
At least half a dozen journalists have been killed in Srinagar in the past 13 years.
In 1991, the editor of Urdu daily Alsaffa News was shot dead in his office.
Former BBC correspondent Yussuf Jameel escaped with injuries when a bomb exploded in his office in 1995, but ANI cameramen Mushtaq Ali lost his life in the incident.
Last year, gunmen shot at and injured Srinagar Times editor Sofi Ghulam Mohammed.
