Don't let Jammu attack derail peace process: Pak to India

K J M Varma in Islamabad | July 01, 2003 09:54 IST

Pakistan on Monday night called on India not to let the weekend suicide attack on a military camp in Saujiwan affect the peace process between the two countries.

Foreign office spokesman Masood Khan also denied any Pakistani role in the terrorist attack, asking the Indian leaders to 'eschew reflexive reactions'.

He called upon India to take 'supplementary and simultaneous' confidence building measures to normalise relations.

Khan said Pakistan condemned the attack as a terrorist act, and believed that civilians should not be targeted, while 'suggesting' that such activities could be a handiwork of Indian intelligence operatives.

He added the arrival of Pakistan High Commissioner-designate Aziz Ahmad Khan in New Delhi cannot be regarded as normalisation of relations between the countries.
