Militants gun down 5 in Rajouri district

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar | July 07, 2003 16:58 IST

Five persons were killed and one injured on Monday afternoon when militants opened indiscriminate fire in Naushera village in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district.

Security officials rushed to the spot on hearing of the incident, which comes two days before the beginning of the Amarnath Yatra.

The first batch of pilgrims is scheduled to leave Jammu on July 9 and reach the cave shrine on July 12.

Last year, about 100,000 pilgrims undertook the yatra despite efforts by militants to disrupt the same.
