The Air-India Cabin Crew Association on Friday got a respite from the Supreme Court, which upheld their appeal to set aside a Bombay high court order increasing the flying age of air hostesses from 50 to 58 years.

A bench comprising Justice B N Agarwal, Justice D Raju and Justice D M Dharamadhikari also set aside the Bombay high court directive merging the male and female cabin crew cadres.

"We welcome this decision," Rajeev Joshi, Senior Vice-President, Air India Cabin Crew Association told rediff.com.

"We did move the Bombay high court to increase the maximum flying age for air hostesses from 50 to 58," he said.

"We also got a decision in our favour, but with several conditions put forth by the Air-India management, which were not acceptable to us."

"However, we could not oppose the conditions put forth by the management in isolation."

"Hence, we moved the Supreme Court challenging the judgment as a whole," he explained.
