Ajit Singh, Rashtriya Lok Dal chief and estranged National Democratic Alliance partner, dubbed the coordination committee of the coalition as a 'big fraud'.

He told rediff.com that a meeting of the committee was always convened after issues were settled the 'highest level'.

"Though George Fernandes is the convenor of the committee, he does not call a meeting of the committee for months together. Sometimes the time period between one meeting and the second one is nothing less then six to eight months," he said.

Singh, however, steered clear of making an attack on Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee or his deputy Lal Kishenchand Advani.

He described BJP's attempt of retaining power in the 2004 general elections as a 'day dream'.

"Already the BJP base in UP has been eroded by the Bahujan Samaj Party. If they contest with Mayawati as poll partner then she will finish them off. The days of the BJP government are numbered at the central level," he said.

"As agriculture minister I was shocked to get certain proposals from outfits like Swadeshi Jagaran Manch. These people would approach the ministry for funds to the tune of Rs 50 lakhs to one crore for organising a certain seminar or function. In some cases I was asked to post one of their men at the manch office, while he got his salary from the agriculture ministry. I put down such proposals with a firm hand and thereby annoyed many powerful people," he claimed.
