June 08, 2003 00:23 IST
President A P J Abdul Kalam on Saturday said a developed India will become a reality and in a decade the country will enter into a knowledge society.
"It is time for India to enter into the second vision led by the young of this country," he said while launching the 'Kids for Kids' mid-day meal programme of the Akshaya Patra Foundation in Bangalore
He said noting it was important to realise that the country had a population of 700 million young people below 35 years, "which is a big force".
Kalam asked the students not be discouraged by the tag of developing nation status of India and that it did not belong to the so called developed 'G-8'.
Pointing out that knowledge had always been the prime mover of prosperity and power, the President said one of the important indicators of a developed nation was the literacy level.
"The educational institutions have to gear-up to evolve a curriculum that is sensitive to the social and technological needs of the developed India," he said.
