Shilpa Shetty's father surrenders

June 20, 2003 11:14 IST

Surendra Shetty, father of actress Shilpa Shetty, allegedly involved in a case of extortion, surrendered before the Umra police on Friday morning.

A complaint had been lodged in the Umra police station against Shetty, his wife and two gangsters for allegedly trying to extort Rs 8 million, payable to Shilpa by Pankaj Agarwal, the owner of Praful sarees, for appearing in an advertisement film.

The police claim to possess recorded telephonic talk between Shilpa's parents and Agarwal, which allegedly reveal that the latter was threatened.
