Top police officers transferred
in shake up in Maharashtra

March 17, 2003 16:23 IST

Some top police officers in Mumbai were on Monday transferred with Satyapal Singh taking over as the Joint Commissioner of Police (crime) and Rakesh Maria as Additional Commissioner of Police (crime), official sources said.

Satyapal Singh, a senior IPS officer and joint commissioner of police, was transferred from the Special Investigating Department of the Maharashtra Police to the same post in the Mumbai Police.

Singh had only a brief stint with the SID before his transfer.

He swaps places with Sridhar Wagal, who has been transferred to the Special Investigating Department of Maharashtra police as a joint commissioner, the sources added.

Rakesh Maria, Commissioner of Police (Railways), has taken over as Additional Commissioner of Police in the Mumbai Police, the sources said.

Maria replaces U S Kamble who has been transferred in the same rank to the local arms constabulary.

All the transfers will take place with immediate effect.

The transfers come in the wake of a blast on March 13 in a compartment of a local train at the Mulund railway station.
