US-based groups condemn J&K massacre

Several US-based Indian organisations on Tuesday condemned the massacre of 24 Kashmiri Pandits in Jammu and Kashmir and urged the US government to take effective measures to end Pakistan's support to cross-border terrorism.
"(The killings are) a continuation of the 14-year campaign by Islamic terrorists, supported, trained and financed by Pakistan, to ethnically cleanse the Kashmir valley of non-Muslims," the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS), a non-profit cultural organization with over 50 chapters throughout the US, said in a statement.
"We urge the governments of India and the United States to undertake effective measures to ensure that Pakistan ceases financing and training terrorists.”
"We urge the state government of Jammu and Kashmir to protect its minority Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist population," the HSS said.
Jeevan Zutshi of the Indo-American Kashmir Forum said the organisation had contacted several US members of Congress to 'take note' of the development.
Several Indian organisations will hold a special prayer next Sunday to remember these 'brave and simple' people who ended up paying a very heavy price for their decision to stay in the valley despite threats from militants, he said.
