Raje gets BJP high command's backing

May 25, 2003 18:55 IST

The Bharatiya Janata Party high command on Sunday said its state chief, Vasundhara Raje, would be the chief minister if the party won the assembly election in Rajasthan later this year.

"There is no doubt that the BJP will return to power, removing the inefficient (Ashok) Gehlot government and Raje will be the chief minister," Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani said in Jaipur.

He was there along with party president Venkaiah Naidu, general secretary Pramod Mahajan and other leaders to finalise the BJP's strategy for the assembly polls in five states, including Rajasthan, the general election and organisational issues.

"The time is coming soon when Raje, who has been touring all over the state with her Parivartan Yatra to galvanise people against the misrule of the Congress, would be heading the government in Rajasthan," Naidu said.

"It would be a reversal of fortune in the coming assembly polls when the BJP would romp home with two-third majority under the leadership of Raje." Mahajan told workers.
