Mulayam thanks Centre for helping foil VHP's Ayodhya programme

October 17, 2003 19:38 IST

After foiling the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's plan of a congregation in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday said his government has successfully passed the 'agni pariksha' (trial by fire).

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, he said, "I have been able to successfully meet the challenge posed by the communal and disruptive forces only with the help of the people of the country and those of Uttar Pradesh and Ayodhya in particular, who totally rejected the call of communal forces."

The chief minister showered praise on the Centre for providing all necessary help and cooperation. "By extending necessary help, the Centre has maintained the true traditions of federal structure of the country," he said.
