Pak concerned by arms purchases by India

K J M Varma in Islamabad | September 22, 2003 14:55 IST

Maintaining that arms purchases by India have upset the conventional weapons balance in South Asia, Pakistan President Gen Pervez Musharraf will raise the issue with US President George W Bush and other world leaders on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

India was 'uncontrollable' in acquiring conventional weapons, while Pakistan exercised 'restraint' in this respect, he said in New York on his arrival on Sunday night to attend the UNGA.

His address to the UN General Assembly would concentrate on eradication of terrorism and its fallout on Pakistan. "I will also discuss the fallout of the international community's fight against terrorism on the Islamic world with world leaders," Musharraf said.

Pointing out that the Kashmir and Palestine issues had remained on the UN agenda for a long time, he told journalists en route to New York, "It is imperative that the UN addressed these major issues which keep undermining world peace and security."
