Just hours after news came in that Chatterjee's clemency plea has been rejected by President A P J Abdul Kalam, the convict's lawyer, Sekhar Basu, said he will move a petition in the Supreme Court under Article 32 of the Constitution.

Article 32 deals with the right to move the Supreme Court for enforcement of a fundamental right.

"Notwithstanding the Presidential decision, there has been inordinate delay in the matter and as such Dhananjoy Chatterjee deserves commutation of his sentence," Basu told PTI.
