Undertrial lynched in court by mob

August 14, 2004 09:24 IST

Bharat alias Akku Yadav, a notorious goon of Nagpur, was lynched by a crowd, comprising mainly women, inside a civil court on Friday afternoon.

Akku had at least 24 cases of extortion, murder and eve-teasing against him.

Though he was externed for one year in January this year, people alleged he was seen roaming around freely in Kasturba Nagar.

There are reports that recently his house in the same locality was ransacked by a mob. Fearing a bid on his life, Akku had surrendered to the police.

On Friday afternoon, when he was being produced in the civil court no. 7, a mob appeared out of nowhere and broke open the front door of the court room and attacked Akku with knives and stones.

He was killed on the spot.

Joint  Police Commissioner Rajendra Sonawane has ordered an inquiry into the security lapse.
