The two militants who attacked the Jammu railway station were killed on Friday night bringing an end to the siege. Six people, including the two militants, died in the attack.

Four security personnel -- two Border Security Force jawans, one Government Railway Police jawan and an army officer -- were also killed. The two BSF jawans were on holiday and in the station to catch a train. The GRP jawan and the army officer died while combatting the militants.

Twelve people -- six BSF soldiers, three policemen, two civilians and an army jawan -- were hurt. They were taken to the SMGS hospital.

The militants struck at platforms number two and three. They also lobbed hand grenades. One of the militants had explosives strapped around his body. No train was stationed at the platforms when the militants struck.

"We quickly evacuated the passengers and their relatives who came to the station to catch the trains leaving Jammu," a police officer told rediff.com

The attack came on the eve of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's visit to Islamabad.
