Jaya Bachchan, Ambani in Rajya Sabha

All eleven Rajya Sabha candidates in the fray in Uttar Pradesh, including businessman Anil Ambani, actress Jaya Bachchan and hotelier Lalit Suri, were declared elected unopposed in the biennial elections on Saturday.

The others elected unopposed were: former Union ministers Arun Shourie and Murli Manohar Joshi (both BJP), Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati, Satish C Mishra (BSP), Bhagwati Singh, Ram Narayan Sahu, Nand Kishore and Kamal Akhtar (all SP).

While Ambani was an independent candidate supported by the SP, Suri contested as an independent supported by the BJP. Bachchan was an SP candidate.
