12 run over by train near Bhopal

November 28, 2004 14:35 IST

At least 12 people were killed on Sunday when they were run over by a train at Sukhi Sevania railway station, some 5 km from Bhopal.

The victims were crushed by the Chennai-Lucknow superfast while crossing the railway track after alighting from the Bhopal-Bina passenger train, police said.

One person was also injured in the accident.

The victims, mostly college students, were on their way to Sanchi to attend a fair, the police said.

The authorities announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh to each bereaved family.
