The police on Monday recorded the statement of former Crime Branch Deputy Commissioner of Police Pradeep Sawant in connection with the controversial Salman Khan-Aishwarya Rai audio tape case.

The tape of the telephonic conversation carries a voice allegedly that of an inebriated Khan intimidating and abusing Aishwarya Rai [Images] to perform at an entertainment programme organised by fugitive gangster Abu Salem [Images].

Sawant, who was holding the charge as DCP Crime Branch at the time when the purported conversation is believed to have been recorded, was asked if he had knowledge of the interception of any such conversation between the two Bollywood stars and if any action was taken at that time, Crime Branch sources said.

The sources also said they do not rule out the likelihood of more Crime Branch officials being quizzed in the case in the coming days.
