Two United States-based Indian doctors, Dr Cherukuri Subba Rao from Andhra Pradesh and Dr Amit Chakrabarty from West Bengal, have enabled Sambhalpur village in Orissa to enter the record books by successfully wiping out the infant mortality rate there.

The feat has been recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The Association of American Physicians of Indian Origin is running 14 free clinics all over the country. The one at Sambhalpur had achieved zero per cent infant mortality rate.

The doctors, both Urologists of repute from Huntsville, told UNI that the World Health Organisation had sent a team to study the stupendous task of zeroing the infant mortality rate achieved by them before recommending for a Guinness Book entry.

They said that even though the AAPIO provided funds, the locals had managed the clinic at Sambhalpur themselves.
