Late Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pramod Mahajan's son Rahul got engaged to his long-time friend Sheweta in New Delhi on Monday.

Rahul is on bail after he was arrested for alleged drug use.

Rahul and Sheweta, both 31 years old, exchanged rings in a ceremony attended by family members and close friends.

Earlier, Rahul said Sheweta stood by him during trying times and that he was happy to be with her.

"She has been my friend for 12 years. She is a pilot and my father was her Godfather. He wanted us to be together," Rahul said.

Rahul and Sheweta both did their pilot training together abroad.
