Income Tax department sleuths on Tuesday raided the residences of owners of the self financing colleges and their official premises, including the house of actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth, actor Murali and Jepiyar, the founder of Satyabama deemed university in Chennai.
IT department sources said the raids were being conducted in over 100 places in different parts of the state. The raids, which began at 0800 hours, were likely to continue till evening, the sources said.
Raids were also conducted on the houses and office complexes of the relatives of Vijayakanth at Chennai and Madurai and at one of his friend's place at Udumalpet in oimbatore district, the sources added. The colleges run by the relatives of Jepiyar were also subjected to raids.
Vijayakanth, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam leader and legislator, and Jepiyar were not available for comments.
