After getting the letter of support from the Nationalist Congress Party, the Congress is in talks with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party to have a formidable majority in the 40-member Goa assembly.

"Yes, we are holding talks with the MGP and will give letter to Governor S C Jamir with the list of supporting legislators by Wednesday evening," All India Congress Committee general secretary in charge of Goa, Margaret Alva told PTI.

MGP, an alliance partner in the previous Pratapsingh Rane government, has bagged two seats, which are crucial for Congress to strengthen its position in the House.

With the support of three NCP legislators, the Congress tally has gone up to 19, two less than the required 21-seat mark for simple majority.

Alva said two independents -- Rane's son Vishwajit and Anil Salgaocar -- are also supporting the Congress.

She denied of holding any talks with the Save Goa Front leader Churchill Alemao. The front has won two seats in the polls.
