A live bomb was found inside a private nursing home at a posh locality in Nagpur on Saturday evening, leading to the evacuation of 30 patients from the outdoor department.

"An unidentified caller called up Dr Aziz Khan, a cardiologist at his Crescent Hospital, saying a bomb has been placed in the hospital which will explode at 5 pm. The hospital immediately informed the police control room," Joint Commissioner of Police Babasaheb Kangale told reporters.

A bomb detection and disposal squad, accompanied by sniffer dogs, was sent to the nursing home. The dogs gave indication of some explosive lying under the sofa. Police cordoned off the area and vacated the hospital.

The explosive was found wrapped in a black plastic bag with pencil cells and powder. The policemen removed it and placed it in a specially designed trailer of a police van and sent it to the police firing range at Hingana, Kangale added.

There were about 30 patients in the OPD at the time of the phone call. Kangale said it was not a timer bomb but a crude bomb and could be gun powder.

However, indoor patients were not evacuated.

Kangale said that during preliminary investigation, police found that a youth aged 25 made a telephone call from a STD booth near Anand Cinema at Sitabuldi. The youth made only one call, the booth operator told police.

Khan said the caller spoke in Hindi and said he has planted a bomb which would go off after ten minutes.
