Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on Monday said he would approach the Election Commission seeking derecognition of Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena in the wake of its party chief's remarks and subsequent violence in Mumbai targetting north Indians.
"The Election Commission should take care of MNS for blatantly violating EC guidelines," Singh, who has lodged a police complaint against Raj Thackeray for inciting the violence, said.
"The recent incidents have demonstrated that no one is safe in Mumbai. As seen from the disturbance outside actor Amitabh Bachchan's [Images] house, when even someone like him is not safe, one can imagine the plight of an ordinary Mumbaikar," he said.
Singh expressed displeasure with the 'way police have behaved in the whole episode.'
"At the police station, they were blatantly aligning with the other side," he alleged.
The SP leader also accused Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh of being a 'mute spectator'.
He also ridiculed Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil's statement on Sunday that Samajwadi Party leaders had the habit of speaking too much.
