PM, Sonia arrive in blast-torn Ahmedabad

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh [Images] arrived in the blast-hit Ahmedabad [Images] on Monday along with Congress president Sonia Gandhi [Images] and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil [Images] to visit the victims in the city.

They proceeded towards the city civil hospital where a high-intensity blast had claimed 23 lives on July 26. Sixteen blasts on Saturday ripped through the city claiming a total of 49 lives and injuring 145 people.

The prime minister, Sonia and Patil visited the injured at the civil hospital which was hit by a car bomb explosion. They also went to the site of the blast at the hospital. The prime minister was briefed by Chief Minister Narendra Modi [Images] who accompanied him during his visit.
