Eight people were killed, including two women and five children, in landslips in several parts in Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.

Official sources said three persons of a family -- a woman and her two daughters -- were buried when a retention wall inside a house collapsed at Nitivihar area.

Landslide also killed a woman near Banquet Hall, while another person died in his residence at Division-4 Road, sources said adding three children of a policeman were also buried at Naharlagun.

A landslip also occurred at A-Sector in Patu Nallah, where the number of casualties could not be ascertained as yet and the rescue operation was on.

Police said the toll might rise as many bodies were feared to be under the debris.

Incessant downpour was slowing the rescue operation.

Reports from other parts of the state could not be obtained due to breakdown in communication system.

Torrents had thrown life out of gear in the past two days in several parts of the capital and damaged sectoral roads in Itanagar and Naharlagun.

Traffic movement on NH-52A remained disrupted since morning.
