The Mumbai police on monday received a non-bailable warrant issued by a Jamshedpur court against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Biharis and said it will be executed this week.
"The non-bailable warrant issued by a court in Jamshedpur was received by us on Monday but we will execute it during the course of this week," deputy commissioner of police (Zone V) Milind Bharambe told PTI. The warrant against Thackeray for allegedly making derogatory remarks against members of the Bihari community, was brought to Mumbai by the Jamshedpur police and will be served on the MNS leader later in the week as Thackeray is presently out of the city, he said.
The non-bailable warrant was issued by the court of first class judicial magistrate A K Tiwary on September 30 directing the MNS leader to be present before him on November 17.
The court directive came on a petition filed against Thackeray by Hammed Raza Khan, a lawyer, for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of a section of society.
"Raj Thackeray is on a tour of the Konkan region and Western Maharashtra till November 25. It will be the decision of the home department whether to arrest him," Atul Sarpotdar, general secretary of the MNS, said.
