Mixed doubles: Paes through, Mahesh out

July 04, 2003 01:47 IST

Leander Paes and Martina Navratilova moved into the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon in a late evening match on Thursday beating the Australian pair of Peter Luczak and Christina Wheeler.

The pair, seeded fifth, comfortably won its third round match played on the prestigious centre court 6-4, 6-2.

But in an earlier match, top seeds Mahesh Bhupathi of India and Paola Suarez of Argentina were beaten in straight sets 3-6, 4-6 by Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia and Iroda Tulyaganova of Uzbekistan.

The top-seeded pair went down by a break in each set.

Though they too had two break points in the match, they could capitalise on neither.
