Indonesia in women's team tennis final

October 26, 2003 22:43 IST

Second seeded Indonesia rallied to quell a strong challenge from The Philippines 2-1 and move into the final of the women's team tennis events in the inaugural Afro Asian Games in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Czarina of Arevalo defeated Septi Mende 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 to put The Philippines in the lead, but Sandy Gumulya capitalized on an erratic showing by Patricia Santos, to prevail 7-6(1), 6-1 and level the scores.

In the doubles, which saw fortunes fluctuating, Gumulya and Mende carved out a hard fout 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 win to keep their team's billing intact.

Indonesia await the winner of the other semi-final between India and Nigeria.
