Long jumper Anju Bobby George, who created history by winning India's first ever medal at the World Athletics Championships in Paris last week, moved up two places to a career high of No. 6 in the latest world rankings.

Anju, who won the bronze medal at the championships with a season-best effort of 6.70 metres, behind France's Eunice Barber and Russia's Tatyana Kotova, has 1224 points.

Kotova, with 1322 points, took over the top spot from Brazilian Maureen Higa Maggi, who missed the World championships.

Maggi is placed second with 1291 points, according to the rankings released by the International Association of Athletics Federations.

The No. 6 ranking earned Anju an automatic place in the World Athletics Final in Monaco, on September 13 and 14.

The new list also saw the World championships gold medallist Barber break into the top 10 for the first time. Ranked a modest No. 27 before the event, the Frenchwoman leapfrogged to No. 8 in the new list.

Along with Kotova, seven more athletes rose to the top of the event rankings. They are: Cuba's Yipsi Moreno (women's hammer throw), United States' Darvis Patton (men's 200 metres), Tyree Washington (men's 400 metres), South Africa's Mbuireni Mulaudzi (men's 800 metres), Qatar's Saif Saaeed Shaheen (3000 metres steeple chase) and South Africa's Okkert Brits (men's pole vault).
