Somdev crashes out of Carson Challenger

Somdev Devvarman [Images] made a shock first round exit from the US $50,000 ATP Challenger series in Carson, United States, in both singles and doubles.

Somdev, seeded eighth, lost his opening singles match 1-6, 4-6 to unseeded American Scoville Jenkins.

However, Prakash Amritraj advanced to the second round after beating local wild card Lester Cook 7-6(3), 6-3.

He next faces fourth seed American Wayne Odesnik.

In the doubles event, Somdev and Ashutosh Singh went down fighting to the American pair of Brendan Levine Jesse 3-6, 5-7.

Harsh Mankad and Purav Raja, seeded fourth, advanced to the quarter-finals after a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 win over Santiago Gonzalez of Mexico and Giovann Lapentti of Ecuador.

Prakash and American Scoville also bowed from the doubles, losing their opening encounter 4-6, 6-7 (4) to local wild card duo Rylan Rizza and Kaes Vant'Hof.
