March 02, 2003 17:28 IST
Congratulating the Indian team on winning the match against Pakistan in the cricket World Cup, Finance Minister Jaswant Singh announced that the prize-money earned by the players, individually or as a team, would be exempt from income tax. "I congragulate the Indian team for exemplary performance against Pakistan yesterday. The prize-money given to players, individually or as a team, will be exempt from income tax," Singh said in a statement on Sunday.
