Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh on Monday filed a defamation suit against Bharatiya Janata Party leader Uma Bharti for levelling "baseless" charges against him.

The suit was filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate N S Dixit in Bhopal.

On Friday, the Singh's lawyer had sent a notice to Bharti, the BJP's chief ministerial candidate, asking her to apologise within 24 hours or face legal action.
